Rose Shawanda began harvesting in 1995.

Rose harvests and processes her maple products on her property in Wikwemkoong Unceded Territory on Manitoulin Island.

Rose is a believer of foods security and food sovereignty. She is of a Pottawatomi tribe, her grandfather travelled from Wisconsin to Manitoulin which was referred to as part of “upper Canada” at the time to become a Manitoulin indian.

(Manitoulin indians have recently changed their name to Wikwemkoong Unceded Indian Reserve 26).

A proud Saulteaux Ojibwe Kwe from White Bear First Nation in Saskatchewan. Chef Tammy is a Certified, Red Seal Journeyman Pastry Chef and Baker. A product of the 60’s Scoop, she was adopted into a Finnish family in Ontario. She jokingly refers to herself as a Finndian. She has worked in some of the best restaurants, resorts, hotels and bakeries throughout Canada. Passionate about her Indigenous heritage, this new venture is a natural progress.

At Raven Rising, Global Indigenous is our inspiration and our legacy. Our chocolates and pastries focus on traditional ingredients sourced, wherever possible, from Indigenous people and businesses in Canada and globally. We strive to offer sustainable, ethically sourced, traceable, Fair Trade, and organic ingredients.

Our wish is to offer a balance of worlds. Melding the traditional with the new while still respecting the ingredient.

Scon/Bannock in a bag by Nish Scon

Nish Scon owner-operator Pam Naponse-Corbiere is from Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, a small First Nation just west of Sudbury. All her products are made on the same First Nation by Anishnabe people.

Nish Scon is a pre-packaged flour mix to make a traditional scon or bannock bread. Nish Scon is for people who do not know how to make it or for those who do but don’t have the time! If you’re going to a Pow Wow, or out to camp, all you have to do is take a bag and add water! Pam’s family enjoys her product for making Indian Tacos or blanket dogs (weiners wrapped in scon). Nish Scon mix can be used for frying or baking.

Pam’s secret ingredient is a whole lotta love! “You can’t be mad when you cook scon”. Chi miigwetch (thank you for supporting a local business)
